Browlift VS. Blepharoplasty

browlift vs blepharoplasty

Let’s talk about the two B’s: Browlift and Blepharoplasty. Both are fantastic options for those noticing visible signs of ageing around the upper area of the face, and both tackle the signs of ageing efficiently. However, you are more suited to one or the other, depending on your current situation and your unique goals. Therefore, we thought we’d give you a little run down on the two procedures, so you can understand which would be most beneficial to you!

What is a Browlift?

A Browlift is a procedure that lifts the lateral (outside) area of the brows, which commonly droop and sag as we begin to age. By doing so, it relieves the eyelids of excess skin and reduces lines and wrinkles around the eye and brow region. If you notice that your natural expression exudes a ‘tired’ appearance, even when you are well rested, then this procedure could be a viable choice for you.

Often teamed alongside other procedures if necessary, such as a Blepharoplasty (which we discuss further down) it can fight the signs of ageing head on and does not take you off the field for very long!

What does the procedure involve?

The procedure will have you admitted to hospital and placed under general anaesthesia. Mr Morris Ritz will make pre-operative markings and ensure that you are comfortable before the procedure takes place.

During the procedure, incisions will be made in areas that allow for discreet/hidden scarring and your goals to be achieved successfully. Once the incisions are created, excess skin will be removed and symmetry restored, the incisions then sealed carefully and you are left to rest.

What results can I expect?

You can expect to see the following as a result of your Browlift procedure:

  • A more youthful appearance: Your skin will appear tighter, tauter and healthier than before with the improved contouring and elasticity achieved from surgery.
  • A natural-looking result: Mr Morris Ritz can raise the brow, but only to achieve a natural result. The aim of the procedure is to restore the features, whilst allowing you to look and feel natural as if the procedure was never performed.
  • Fewer wrinkles and lines present: Due to the facial skin now being firmer, there will be fewer wrinkles and fine lines visible around the brow area.

What is the downtime?

Recovery after surgery will begin with you relaxing in hospital for several hours. When Mr Morris Ritz deems that you are able to return home, you will continue your recovery journey in the peace and quiet of your own space. A bandage around the head with dressing on the targeted area must be worn for the initial week post-procedure, with Mr Ritz checking your progress each week for the first few weeks of your healing process.

Driving is taboo for the first week, as well as vigorous exercise and heavy lifting. Once the dressings are removed, Mr Ritz will assess your individual recovery and devise a plan of how you should proceed.

What is a Blepharoplasty?

A Blepharoplasty is a procedure sometimes referred to as ‘Eyelid Surgery.’ It involves the surgical removal of excess skin and fatty tissue from both the lower & upper eyelids. Usually used to tackle the signs of ageing, eliminating puffy under-eye bags and sagging upper eyelids, this procedure can also restore vision to the eyes when the excess skin becomes a functional problem. An ideal procedure for those noticing excess skin, bags and sagging skin around the eye region which makes them look tired and more aged than they may be.

What does the procedure involve?

The procedure will have you admitted to hospital, where Mr Morris Ritz will make pre-operative markings on you prior to surgery taking place. Placed under general anaesthesia, Mr Ritz will then begin the procedure.

Depending on the issues you need addressed, incisions will be placed along the crease of the eyelid, allowing for discreet scarring that is easily hidden in the natural fold of the skin. Once the incisions are made, excess fatty tissue and skin are removed, the underlying muscle tissue may be tightened if necessary before the incisions are closed and you are left to rest.

What results can I expect?

After your recovery journey is complete, you will notice the following benefits from your Blepharoplasty procedure:

  • A more youthful appearance: A Blepharoplasty can instantly take years off your facial appearance by removing the excess tissues. The result is a rejuvenated appearance that looks more youthful, yet still natural.
  • Better vision: If you noticed that the sagging nature of your eyelids was negatively impacting your vision, then expect to see a clearer picture once fully healed after surgery.
  • A less ‘tired’ appearance: Patients who require a Blepharoplasty commonly note that they notice themselves looking tired constantly, with other people occasionally mentioning it about their appearance. After surgery, this ‘tired’ look is diminished substantially, with a fresh, taut and healthy looking appearance in its place.

What is the downtime?

After your procedure has concluded, you will be left to rest in hospital for several hours. Once Mr Ritz deems it safe to return home, you can recover in your home environment for the rest of your recovery journey. Ice is recommended to help to reduce swelling and tenderness, with weekly follow-up appointments scheduled with Mr Morris Ritz to allow him to monitor your healing progress. You will not be permitted to drive for at least one-week post-surgery, and vigorous physical activity including heavy lifting should be avoided during this time. During your follow-up appointments with Mr Ritz, he will assess your progress and gradually introduce your regular activities until you are fully healed.

Both surgical procedures are fantastic options for those noticing the signs of ageing. However, what you think is the correct procedure may not be an ideal choice to achieve your goals. Mr Morris Ritz can assess your skin and appearance during a consultation, allowing him to understand and tailor-make a plan to achieve the look that you desire.
