Rhinoplasty is a procedure that re-shapes the nose. Surgery can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or help relieve some breathing problems in the case of a deviated septum. The aim of this surgery is to produce a nose that appears natural, functions properly, and is in harmony with the rest of the face.
Many patients who are considered good candidates for rhinoplasty are very concerned with how their nose balances their facial features. Because the nose is at central focus of the face, even the most minor asymmetry can stand out to a patient who sees it every day. Rhinoplasty can correct the disproportion of your nose so that you can love what you see in the mirror.
Your initial consultation with Mr Ritz will allow you both to learn about one another and give you a chance to ask any and all questions you have about rhinoplasty. Mr Ritz will go over the full details of the procedure from preparation for surgery until full recovery. You will share your medical history with him so that he can properly inform you of any risks that may be associated with the surgery. While this procedure itself is low-risk, any surgery may result in complications, and it is important you are aware of this before opting in for your procedure.
While you are in our offices, Mr Ritz will assess and measure your nose and note how rhinoplasty can mend any insecurities or treat any nasal conditions you might be suffering from. Our offices are fitted with the latest 3D Vectra imaging machine, so we can take 3D photographs of you to show you a 3D image of an idea of how your result will look. You will have another consultation about 2 weeks prior to your procedure, to discuss the surgery again and answer any further questions you may have.
During the Surgery
On the day of your surgery, you will admit to the hospital 1-2 hours prior to the scheduled procedure time. Mr Ritz and the anaesthetist will see you and prepare you by making markings on your nose and administering sedative.
There are many options for surgery depending on what your concerns are and what you require, so details of the surgery will be discussed between you and Mr Ritz beforehand. Every rhinoplasty is truly unique, and it takes an expert touch to produce great results.
You are usually only required to stay as a day case, but some patients may need to stay 1 night in hospital. You will have nasal packs in your nose for 24 hours, which will be removed when you come to our rooms the next day. We will then fit you with a splint for the next 7 days, ensuring your nose is not subject to movement or interference. After the splint is removed, you will need to wear tape over your nose for another week before you have full freedom over your face once again. At this point, you will be able to see more accurate results, as swelling and bruising will have subsided.
We emphasize to all of our patients the important of following instructions for post- surgical care. These directions help you to have the easiest time with recovery, reduce your chance of complications and ensure the best results possible. You will not be able to drive for the first few days after your surgery, so be sure to enlist the help of friends and family for this time.
You will also be limited with physical activity and should avoid all heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for up to 6 weeks. Activities other than walking may cause heightened blood pressure and affect the healing of your wound. Finally, avoid wearing glasses of any type for 2 weeks, or as long as your splint is in place. Mr Ritz will give you more specific instructions depending on how quickly your healing progresses.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
When you opt for rhinoplasty surgery, you can expect to walk away with the following benefits:
- Better facial symmetry: Rhinoplasty will address any concerns you have with the role of your nose in your facial structure. You will be able to improve the size, shape and angle of your nose to your liking, thereby improving the overall balance of our face.
- Relief when breathing: Patients who suffer from a deviated septum, have broken their nose or have a congenital disease that affects breathing can rest easy after a rhinoplasty. Your surgeon will be able to clear your airways for proper nasal function. Many patients experience easy breathing for the first time in their lives, and the results are truly extraordinary.
- Love how you look: We want all of our patients to leave our offices with more confidence pride and with their heads held high. Rhinoplasty seems to be one of the procedures that makes the most difference in confidence, as the nose truly does make a difference in how the rest of the facial features are exposed.
