Brow Lifts

Brow lifts are quickly becoming a popular cosmetic surgery that ultimately corrects a sagging or deeply furrowed brow. The operation is often performed to reduce the creases, or ‘frown lines’, that develop across the forehead and on the bridge of the nose. It can also raise the eyebrows to a more alert and youthful position. This type of surgery can also be known as a forehead lift. Other rejuvenating procedures or cosmetic treatments often performed along with a brow lift are facelift surgery, to correct ageing changes, eyelid surgery, to rejuvenate ageing eyes and skin resurfacing techniques. With over two decades of experience, Mr Ritz is able to provide each patient with the knowledge and information they need to make an informed decision on whether an eyebrow lift is the appropriate cosmetic procedure for them. Mr Ritz specialises in endoscopic brow lifts and lateral temporal lifts, both of which provide suitable adjustments to those patients looking to obtain a more youthful appearance and reduce wrinkles and frown lines.

Endoscopic Brow Lifts
Endoscopic brow lifts are a minimally invasive surgery to reduce wrinkles and frown lines in the brow and forehead area. This procedure is ideal for younger patients who do not yet have wrinkles and therefore will not require excess skin to be removed. This surgical procedure is performed using a tiny camera and television monitor. Only minimal incisions are necessary to insert the camera, allowing for minimal scarring and a speedy recovery.

This procedure can be performed by itself or in combination with other cosmetic procedures such as a face-lift or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) for optimal results. Mr Ritz will be able to recommend the procedure or combination of procedures best suited to your needs.

Lateral Temporal Lifts
While it is not as complex as a full brow lift, a lateral temporal lift produces similar results with less recovery time. A lateral temporal lift is an ideal procedure for patients who want to reduce excess skin and creases around the eyes.

This procedure is typically performed with local anesthetic, and results are seen immediately. During surgery, an incision is made in the hairline, where it will not be visible. The skin is then tightened, excess skin is removed, and the incision is sutured. With the professional advice of Mr Ritz, lateral temporal lifts can also be combined with other plastic surgery procedures.

What can I expect during the procedure?
Brow lift surgery is typically performed under a general or local anaesthetic. There are two techniques that can be used, both of which can take up to two hours.

The two main types of brow lift are:

  • Open (or ‘traditional’) brow lift – Mr Ritz will make a long incision (cut) across the forehead, either around the hairline or in one of the creases of the forehead. The skin is then lifted away from the underlying tissues, muscles are loosened and fat is removed. The surgeon removes any excess skin, pulls the remaining skin down and stitches the brow into its new position.
  • Endoscopic brow lift – Mr Ritz will make several smaller incisions and insert an endoscope (a metal tube with a camera attached to the end). The operation is similar to that used for an open brow lift, but Mr Ritz will observe the tissues underneath the skin on a television screen rather than through an open wound.

What are the potential risks associated with this procedure? All surgical procedures carry some degree of risk. Some of the possible complications of a brow lift include:

  • Risks of anaesthesia including allergic reactions
  • Surgical risks such as bleeding or infection
  • Hair loss along the wound line
  • Severe, rough or inflamed skin
  • Uneven skin contours
  • Numbness of the brow, which may be temporary or permanent
